A holiday in Alaska is an adventure in a wilderness land of immense size and beauty. You’ll be spellbound by nature’s consummate light show, the Northern Lights. The variety and type of holidays in Alaska are almost as wide as the Alaskan Skyline, and you can travel Alaska by land, sea or air.
Cruise majestically up the legendary Inside Passage, a maze of glacial fjords and inlets so breathtaking, your camera will overheat. Or take the Scenic Railway of the World, a narrow gauge railway in Alaska’s wildly beautiful Yukon Territory, or perhaps the McKinley Explorer, a scenic rail journey through the heart of Alaska in glass domed observation cars. Escorted luxury coach tours will carry you in supreme comfort to some of the most dramatic destinations you’ve ever seen, and you’ll be accommodated in first class hotels all the way. How about flightseeing, or sightseeing from the air? This way you’ll get an extraordinary view of one of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Explore Ketchican; the salmon capital of the world, and Juneau, Alaska’s gold rush capital, where you can take a glacial dog sled ride and pan for gold. The World Heritage Glacier Bay National Park is a photographers dream with its fjords, glaciers and rich wildlife and the enormous Hubbard Glacier will take your breath away as it inches its way into the chill waters of Yakutat Bay. At Skagway, at the top of the Inside Passage, take the rail trip of a lifetime on the historic White Pass Railway.
Don’t forget Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and gateway to the spectacular 24,000 sq km Denali National Park, a wildlife haven home to grizzly bears, caribou, moose and wolves. The area is rich with cross country skiing and dog mushing trails, but don’t be tempted to tackle these unaccompanied.
A holiday in Alaska is a journey to the far side of the world, where stunning landscapes combine with a rich cultural history and pioneering spirit to create a holiday destination unlike any other.

This year we met once again on the Island of Maui at the beautiful Four Seasons Resort at Wailea. This resort consistently delivers and offers an idyllic location overlooking one of Maui’s best beaches. I am not one to lounge around the pool or beach too long and always want to get out and explore any destination I am in. Even after coming to Maui for so many years there is always somewhere new to explore or some old favourites that are always a joy to return to.
This year we took an early morning catamaran straight off the beach down the road from the... view full story
