Samoa Holidays

Holidays in Samoa are getaways in a true tropical paradise. Surrounded by warm crystal blue waters of the South Pacific, the islands of Samoa have been bestowed with stunning natural beauty, a population of warm and friendly people and a culture and history that thrive in an unspoilt environment.

With beautiful beaches, tropical rainforests, volcanic fields and stunning waterfalls Samoa is a postcard of natural beauty. Try exploring some of the uninhabited islands by canoe and get around the principle islands of Upolu and Savaii by bike. The capital, Apia is a lively small city with bustling markets and a laid back approach to life. You’ll want to hit the colourful markets to stock up on fresh fruit like papaws or sinfully sweet ladyfinger bananas, and the flea markets are great for a selection of authentic and inexpensive souvenirs.

You really must check out Lake Lanoto, a bottomless lake as green as a pie floater teeming with goldfish. And no Samoa holiday is complete without paying tribute to Robert Louis Stevenson at his home on the mountains above Apia; the view from his tomb is stunning.

The island of Savaii is where time stands still, untouched by western influences the people maintain a traditional way of life. There’s a varied landscape, but you’ll certainly have opportunity to explore tropical mountain rainforests and untouched beaches. You’ll encounter flying foxes, waterfalls, rivers, blowholes and lava fields, as well as an 11th century step pyramid said to be one of the largest in the southern hemisphere.

There’s a wide range of accommodation choices on the islands. From family friendly to eco friendly, standard to first class, the hotels and resorts of Samoa offer terrific value. For a touch of nostalgia, check out Aggie Greys hotel on Apia’s waterfront. A local icon, the Aggie grey name is now synonymous with some of the most exciting and innovative hospitality in the country.

American Samoa is a collection of seven islands administered by the USA, about 100 km to the south east of Apia.

OK, I admit that it has been a few years since I have visited Thailand. But it hasn't dampend my enthusiasm, passion and love for this country and its people. On my first trip to Thailand, I was a keen backpacker with a great sense of adventure. This time round, I was travelling as a tired mum looking for a place to rest and relax. My memories of aromas from the street stalls, friendly people, inexpensive massages, the heat and humidity and the beauty of the country hadn't dissipated and I wasn't disappointed. On this adventure, (I'll call it an adventure as it was a new way to travel for me!), my husband, Peter, and I settled ourselves into a higher priced guest house ($20 per night) in the Khao San area of Bangkok for three nights. From here, we spent our days meandering the Grand Palace to take in the intricacies of the workmanship as well as some other temples. We also spent time together shopping and meandering the area around Khao San road as well as experiencing a Thai massage... view full story
