We Aussies are spoiled for choice when blessed with a few days to spare, and we’re
never too far from a raft of local getaway options. We don’t necessarily need to
venture abroad for that holiday of a lifetime that stimulates, entertains or relaxes,
it can all be found in our own back yard.
Whether it’s a few days exploring the wineries of the Hunter valley, tootling along
the back roads of Tassie’s Central Highlands or lazing on a sun-kissed beach in
the Whitsundays, we’re rarely more than a couple of hours flight from somewhere
new and fantastic. Stuck for an idea? Call your Travel Counsellor and let them unfold
a world of local possibility.
Relaxing Getaways
Think about a few days chilling out in Australia’s spa centre; Daylesford, or how
about a lazy sojourn on Rottnest? Maybe a pamper package in a Blue Mountains resort
or lounging in a luxury retreat on Kangaroo Island? How about a few days on the
fairways of Victoria’s golf coast, the Mornington Peninsula, a beach shack in Byron
Bay or a gourmet tour of the Barossa Valley? Whatever you decide, wherever you go,
you’ll return refreshed and relaxed, and ready to plan your next local getaway.
Entertaining Getaways
From theme parks, to casinos or theatrical extravaganzas on world-leading stages,
Australians are gifted with opportunities to explore a world of entertainment choices.
Gourmands might consider Sydney’s Good Food Month, racegoers Melbourne’s Spring
Racing carnival or music lovers, Womadelaide. Take the kids to Seaworld for fun
in the sun, Thredbo to hit the slopes, Hyden to “surf down” the spectacular Wave
Rock, or Ballarat for a journey to the gold rush era at Sovereign Hill. Whatever
entertains or stimulates, the possibilities are endless for a fantastic local getaway.

We hired a small car, which gave us access to all the other activities that we wanted to do.
We had some wonderful adventures. We drove up into the Daintree and stopped off at the Discovery Centre. There are some fabulous walks within the centre, a canopy tower 23 metres high, elevated board walks and a Eco shop. We moved further north to Cape Tribulation and this is as far... view full story
