Daydream Island nestled in the Whitsundays and literally a stone throw from the Great Barrier Reef is an island destination you would be proud and privileged to call home for any number of days. Sarah and I spent several days on Daydream Island soaking in all the splendours of island live that we could.

Day One: Arrive late afternoon, check in and had a swim in one of the several swimming pools available. Late evening and we decide we’d better get some food. So we head the “Tourist” end of the resort and indulge in some traditional Australian pub style meals with some good beverages and great conversation.

Day Two: An early start to the day with a buffet breakfast with every inclusion you could ever think of. After booking in for our spa experiences we decide to check out the world’s only man made Coral Reef with an array of tropical fish, sharks, sting rays and coral. This Reef winds its way through the island and is unbelievable. Spent the afternoon enjoying the bush walk across the top end of the island. Evening meal was seafood platter for two and some magnificent Aussie wine in the formal dining restaurant – Mermaids.

Day Three: Today we ventured into the ocean. Heading to Lovers Cove as it is known, we hired our snorkelling gear and wetsuits for a minimal fee. We set up beachside and were literally swimming amongst schools of fish not 5 metres from the shore. Around lunch time we get a little peckish and make good use of Daydreams Island picnic lunch serve. We have a basket full of goodies delivered to us beachside. The hamper includes; wine, cheese and crackers, hot chicken, salad, fruit and a selection of breads and cold meats – what a service.

Day Four: Today we make good use of Daydream Islands Putt-Putt Golf with 18 holes of golf and an embarrassing loss to me. I let her win. I did. After a big day of golf we decide to take in the atmosphere of the outdoor cinema for the evening. With popcorn, camp chairs and plush rugs we look out over a setting sun in the ocean before the big screen comes to life at cinematic proportions.

Day Five: Lazy day sitting by the pool, the bar and sleeping in!

Day Six: We both have spa treatments booked in today. Sarah is off to have a seaweed wrap – eww and I’m off to have some hydro-therapy. Not really knowing what this was I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was a detoxination bath full of massaging jets and sprays. What a wonderful way to end the holiday. Sarah thoroughly enjoys her seaweed wrap, massage and day of relaxation. Needless to say she was in the Day Spa much longer than I.

Day Seven: Final morning this morning after a quick breakfast and a dip in the pool we are off the island and heading home.

Daydream island is an amazing place that offers everything you could possibly think of. Just sit and relax or get out there and explore – so much to do and again so little time.

Nathan Recommendations:
Upgrade to the Ocean View – it’s worth it
Book in for the Day Spa – man and woman, there is something for everyone.
Pack your swimmers in your hand luggage so you can get straight into the pool.
Swim up Bar; you can’t go wrong!
