A truly beautiful country with something to offer everyone.
It was a quick and flying visit but we saw and did so much. Our base in Langkawi was at the Westin Langkawi. A beautiful resort set in a natural location with incredible views of the Andaman Sea, especially from the bar area where the Margaritas are cold and refreshing! Open the doors from your balcony and take in more of this lovely area, but please do not feed the monkeys!
We managed to see some of the local attractions, including a ride in the cable car. If you can get over the enormous heights the cable car travels, the views are stunning and worth the fright! The views of Langkawi are amazing and south Thailand is just a stone’s throw away.
There are resorts that will cater for everyone’s tastes and needs. However one in particular stood out for me. If you would like the experience of staying in a Malay antique wooden house, a villa house from Penang or maybe a Chinese Temple, then a stay at the Bon Ton Resort is a must. Situated on beautiful wetlands, the resort is something unique. Fantastic food and welcoming hosts, this is the place to go unwind and relax before you do anything.

After a whirlwind tour of Langkawi we were off to Kulala Lumpur and a stay at The Sheraton Imperial Hotel. The local monorail is just a short walk and this takes you into the main area of KL where you can experience incredible shopping, from the local markets to multi storey outlets offering incredible prices on brand name goods.

The local food and beer on offer at some of the small shops located throughout the market gives you a place to park the hubbies, whilst the girls have fun! The city is easy to get about in and with plenty to do.

A visit to the Traders Hotel Sky Pool is a must with incredible views of the city and Petronas Towers. A happy hour operates on Sundays from noon for approximately 3 hours and for a very small outlay you can enjoy continuous food, drinks and even massages whilst sitting around the pool in your own sunken lounge area.

This country is a fantastic alternative to Fiji and Thailand, no hawkers and traders to bother you in the streets and bars. It is friendly, safe and very cheap! If the country wasn’t already great value for money, Langkawi is a duty free island!

A must whilst in Malaysia:

• Take time to visit a spa and have a Malay massage. The ginger and lemongrass teas on offer are pretty good!
• Dine at the buffet seafood BBQ around the infinity pool at the Westin Langkawai.
• Mangrove tour and Cable Car ride in Langkawi.
• Sit on the sidewalk at a bar and have an icy cold Tiger beer whilst watching the local life go by.
• Happy hour Sky Bar at Traders Hotel KL!
• Bargin shopping in Petaling Markets KL for all sorts of items!
