In May this year I was fortunate to visit Fiji on an agent educational hosted by Fiji Tourism. The trip had a “Romance Me Fiji” theme and was designed to showcase the wonderful venues available for weddings and honeymoons in Fiji.
In a busy 7 day itinerary we stayed at 6 different hotels, ranging from 5 star to 3 star, along the beautiful Coral Coast, Denarau and Nadi regions of Fiji and were fortunate to savour many delicious meals similar to those that would be served at weddings.
We flew Air Pacific to Nadi and with a late evening arrival were grateful for the short 15 minute drive to our first hotel, the Westin in Denarau. After a quick supper at the stunning Moo Moo Wine Bar & Grill next to the pool we retired to our rooms and the Westin’s famous divine “Heavenly Beds” which lived up to their reputation as the most comfortable beds ever!!
Waking up in Fiji to a view of the ocean, beaches and palm trees with balmy tropical weather, it is easy to see why it is one of the favourite destinations for Australian couples and families alike! While in Denarau we inspected the Westin as well Sheraton Denarau Villas and Sheraton Fiji Resort. These sister resorts share some facilities, such as the Heavenly Spa, which is at the Westin and Restaurants and pools. Guests can charge services from any of these resorts back to their rooms. Their beautiful wedding chapel is situated on the headland overlooking the beach and is one of the more picturesque chapels I have seen.
Our next stop was the Shangrila Fijian Resort, situated on private Yanuca Island and accessed via a short causeway. A large resort the Shangrila caters well to couples wanting to marry in Fiji. As well as a lovely chapel, there are outdoor venues, a permanent marquee for receptions and couples can build a coral fish house to place on the reef and a plaque with their name’s is mounted on a wall.
The popular Chi Spa offers some unique treats for honeymooners, such as the Dawn to Dusk package. Like most spas in Fiji it is usually heavily booked, so I would recommend prebooking spa treatments before you arrive in Fiji to avoid disappointment.
Also at the Shangrila is the village where Fire Dancer shows together with a buffet dinner are on offer twice a week. A fabulous show with young Fijian warriors twirling balls of fire and performing dances and acrobatic feats which has to be seen to be believed.
Further along the Coral Coast to the lovely Naviti Resort, which offers all inclusive packages with all meals and drinks – very popular with Australian families for a relaxing break with no hidden extra costs!
A free afternoon and availability finally at a day spa meant I could enjoy the relaxing and invigorating massages Fiji is famous for. Definitely a must do in Fiji to really relax and get into “Fiji Time!”
The Warwick Fiji Resort & Spa is a popular choice for weddings, with options of an island ceremony or tropical beach setting where brides can enter on a traditional reed boat with warrior escorts. Wedding receptions can also make use of the much awarded Wicked Walu Restaurant and the honeymoon couple can enjoy benefits of the exclusive Club Warwick in the couples only Suva Wing.
For a relaxed laid back 3 star resort, couples can’t go past the lovely Ridges Hideaway Resort, half way along the coral Coast. With beautiful beach or private pool settings decorated in style and the spacious beach bungalows for honeymooners, Hideaway offers a great value alternative for couples.
Another must do while in Fiji is a Sunset Cruise offered by Captain Cook Cruises. The sunsets are amazing and the meals, entertainment and service are of an excellent standard.
In Fiji almost all the resorts offer great wedding packages with wedding coordinators, flowers, decorations and a celebrant or minister. Other optional extras including a photographer, hair, makeup artist, wedding cake and receptions can also be arranged. For a romantic wedding, without the usual fuss and high costs, Fiji is beautiful and affordable choice for couples.

I will definitely be going back to Fiji soon with my kids, and if I do ever get married again.... it will be in Fiji on a beach!
