Nelson Bay Getaway
Wednesday 17th March 2010

Back in March I did something that I haven't done for a while - I took advantage of the gloriously mild weather we were experiencing and I went to Nelson Bay. The definite highlight of the trip was the Moonshadow Dolphin cruise.
There is a pod of resident dolphins in the Bay and they said on the day if we didn't see any dolphins the next trip with them would be free! No fear on that though, not only did we see dolphins we were able to get extremely close as they swam along side the boat. While the dolphins were a highlight there is also plenty of other marine animals to see - we even saw a few little penguins having a nice float and a stickybeack around!
Back on dry land we were spoiled for choice with were to eat. Nelson Bay marina has a fantastic collection of different cafes, eateries and restaurants with the main problem not having enough time to sample everything! In nearby Salamander Bay is somewhere that is fantastic for a short getaway - Oaks Pacific Blue Resort. This resort has a swimming pool that circles the resort with the most popular rooms being the swimout apartments. These go right out to the edge of the pool so you are able to get in and out of the pool right at your door.
A fantastic time was had by all and it reminded me that you don't have to go far for a holiday but you do need to go and have a great time.
