Family Holiday to Bali
Saturday 17th October 2009

This was my fourth time to Bali and each time I go back there I have a completely different experience. This time it was seeing it through a child's eyes. My daughter was 16 months old when we travelled - this being her first overseas trip. I needn't of worried though, the Balinese loved her. They were always talking to her and giving her high fives. She was a big hit with everyone there.
When we arrived in Bali we were met with our pre arranged driver Sanny. This is something that I definately recommend whilst you are there. He was fantastic as he had already installed a child car seat so that was one thing that we didn't need to worry about. He also had an esky of cold drinks ready to go - something that was very welcoming as you walk out of the airport and into the Bali sunshine.
Soon enough we were adjusting and settling ourselves into 'Bali Time'. There is no hurry to get anywhere really. The traffic can get bad but no one really seems to care. The toots of the car and bike horns do not have the same meaning as they do in Australia - they are more of a courtesy than aggression.
We were soon settled by the pool enjoying cocktails and observing everyone around us. Bali has something for everyone. If you love shopping, eating, drinking and being pampered it certainly fits the bill.
If you love to fill your days with plenty of activities you have an amazing choice of different types of things to do. From cycling the rice paddies, white water rafting, riding the craziest waterslides, visiting the Bali Safari and Marine Park, cruises out on the ocean - the list could go on and on. If you love to just do nothing and laze by the pool with a cool beverage that can definately be arranged
One of the main things that people get caught up in when they travel to Bali is the shopping. From designer boutiques to the stalls on the side of the road there is something for everyone. Seminyak is where you will find the air conditioned (fantastic on the really hot days) stores with the designer labels but throughout Kuta, Legian and Seminyak you will find the markets and stalls with fantastic clothing, homewares and luggage to take your fancy. Make sure you practise your bartering skills and remember that sometimes you may be haggling over a few cents so make sure that you enjoy yourself.
Another highlight for me was the food. There are restaurants wherever you look and you could order a whole meal for as little as a couple of dollars. There is nothing better than sitting down with a cool Bintang and a lovely Nasi Goreng and watching the world go by
Bali is definately one of my favourite destinations (hence the fact that I have been four times now) and is something that I would recommend to any type of traveller. Whether it be a family holiday, a romantic getaway or a boys/girl trip away Bali has something to offer everyone.
