London & Paris
Friday 15th October 2010

After months of discussions and planning our family holiday, finally the day had arrived and we were at Brisbane Airport checking in for our overnight flight to Kuala Lumpur and an onward connection arriving in London late afternoon.
We travelled on Malaysia Airlines in a 777 aircraft where in economy class the individual screens and “movies on demand” helped to pass the time away. We arrived into London Heathrow airport and were soon on the underground rail heading for Russell Square Station and our hotel which would be “home” for the next three nights. Our hotel was a mere five minute walk from Russell Square Station and 10 minutes from St Pancras Station. As we were to have an early departure for Paris, the hotel location was important to us.
With lots and lots of walking and absolutely loving that the underground transport was so accessible, London is an easy city to travel around in. We made the most of our two full days here visiting Westminister Abbey, the London Eye, the Tower of London and with perfect weather, walking along the banks of the River Thames. The next part of our adventure would be in Paris and we were looking forward to the train trip on the Eurostar from London to Paris.
After a quick immigration check we boarded the Eurostar and headed to Paris. This high speed train is very efficient and comfortable, offering two classes of service. It seemed that in no time, we had arrived at Gard de Nord Station and settled into our hotel for the next three nights of our holiday.
Paris is a more “spread-out” city and we found the hop-on/off City Tour bus was great value.
We purchased a 48 hour pass as we took in the sights of Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and many more sights that would not have been possible to visit within the time frame we had. I thought the train stations absolutely amazing as they are more like Monuments and well worth a visit on their own.
After three nights in Paris, we had a very early check-out from our hotel and headed to Gard de Lyon station for our train from Paris to Milan, only to find out the train had been cancelled due to strikes. Long story short, we got to Milan via Switzerland and that’s how I Italian adventure began!
It was great to re-visit London and Paris so please give me a call if you planning to go too. I’d love to share more with you.
