Phuket - Sun - Fun - Adventure - Relax.

"The Pearl of Thailand" or "The emerald upon the elephant's trunk" is the way to describe Phuket with respect to the rest of Thailand. With lots to do and see, or simply relax and enjoy the sunshine. Such an array of choices with accommodation to suit the budget traveller, family, honeymoons or luxury travel.
I chose to stay at Centara Karon Beach in a Pool Cabana. This is a 4 Star property, located only one street back from the Beach but surrounded by beautiful estate that it was a great escape from the hussle and bustle of the streets and very peaceful. Seperated into 4 sections, so families have there own peaceful area with pool including slippery dips and a playground next to it, club area guests with own pool and bar, the superior and deluxe rooms overlook the other pool with pool bar and my cabana ground floor with private jacuzzi pool but less than a 5 metre walk to the pool. Very central and easy to get around anywhere in Phuket, tuk tuks are cheap and easily accessible anywhere on the streets and only a 5 minute trip into Patong.
Phuket is an amazing place and so much to do and see or to simply unwind and relax. Lots of Soft Adventure tours, Diving, ATV's, Elephant Trekking, Go Garts, Golf, Thai Cooking Classes to name a few. Visiting Koh Phi Phi Islands is definitely a favourite and definitely a must to do. I chose a company that is well known and respected and was a full day tour by speedboat taking in alot more than most of the companies. Also included the famous Maya Beach, Visit to the Viking Caves, Monkey Beach, Snorkeling and a beautiful Thai Lunch.
Elephant trekking is also on the to do list and there a few options. I did the Jungle elephant trek which included a lot more than elephants, we learnt how they make rubber, coconut husking then did a cruise on chalong bay on a junk including a Thai Lunch.
Phuket's FantaSea is the island's biggest show. With trapeze artists, a cast of hundreds, performing elephants and other animals and an exotic storyline. A buffet dinner is also included.
Other shows to see is Simon's Cabaret - This show features a spectacular musical floor show performed by the world famous "ladyboys" .
Thai Cooking classes are offered in various places, but the best ones are the one's you get to interact and do the cooking yourself then of course eat it. You are shown and then cook yourself a 4 course meal then sit in her lovely home to eat your lunch. Very rewarding and a fantastic experience.
No trip to Phuket is complete without a visit to the famous Bang-la Road. It is closed from 6pm each evening to traffic and becomes a walk through street. Bars, Clubs, Girls and the Lady Boys everywhere. Also recommend the night markets in Patong or the weekend markets in Phuket Town.
Juncelyon is a huge shopping centre in Patong, air conditioned and a great escape from the heat. Or in Phuket town there is approx 3 other shopping malls to visit after the weekend markets. Make sure you barter at the Markets and Street. Some great shopping and bargains to be made, or for more quality items visit Juncelyon Shopping Mall. Or to relax many choices of massages and pampering yourself.
No shortage of restaurants and eating out every night is so affordable. Seafood, Thai, European and just about anything you can think of. Though also definitely try the street stalls, great food and very cheap.
For a bit more cultural there are many temples you can visit, I recommend Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha is not far from there. You can hire a motorcycle to get you there or barter with a tuk tuk on price. Takes approx 20mins from town.
Peak time is generally November through to March/April. I went in May which is traditionally the hottest, humid and wettest time of the year. Though it only rained once for an hour and was more than welcoming. Days and nights above 30 Degrees.
Phuket offers something for everyone, feel free to contact me and I will make sure your Phuket adventure is a memorable one.
