Discover the 12 states that make up America's Authentic South...

“Sweet Home Alabama” is more than just a song; this state is a land of history, culture, music and adventure from beaches to mountains. Music legends Nat King Cole, W.C. Handy and Hank Williams were born here, and artists including Aretha Franklin and The Rolling Stones came to Alabama to cement their careers. Gospel is sung in churches and folks dance, while Blues, Country and Jazz set the mood of local bars. Locally owned restaurants dish up meals of mouth-watering barbecue and fresh seafood from Alabama’s fishing villages, and museums cover everything from Civil Rights and music history to fast cars and faster spacecraft.

Known as “The Natural State” for its stunning mountain vistas and clear running streams, Arkansas is a Southern state where harmony meets nature. Cities like Little Rock, Hot Springs and Bentonville offer a cosmopolitan feel, while a visit to the Eureka Springs will reinvigorate you. The Delta region is where the blues were born and Johnny Cash’s musical journey began. Bill Clinton also launched his political path in the state, and sites commemorating the legacies of both Cash and Clinton can be toured today.

Energetic and lively cities, a relaxing coastline and breathtaking mountain scenery offer rich and unique experiences that can only be found in Georgia. Within the beautiful skyline of Atlanta you can check out the world’s largest aquarium, follow in the footsteps of one of the country’s most notable civil rights leaders and even see the world’s largest collection of Coke memorabilia at the World of Coca-Cola.

Discover one-of-a-kind attractions, immerse yourself in a unique culture and absorb the energy that can be felt in everything from the metropolitan cities to the countryside: an unbridled spirit runs wild in the Bluegrass State. Whether you head down a distillery trail, or enjoy the atmosphere at the race track, Kentucky is infectious.

Louisiana is a unique state made up of mist-shrouded swamps, prairies of Acadiana and the grey Spanish moss cascading from old trees. The streets of Louisiana are filled with an eclectic mix of people: their home cities telling stories of a multicultural, multilingual history rich in diverse cuisines, music and art.

Mississippi is a southern U.S. state with the Mississippi River to its west, the state of Alabama to its east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. Its Mississippi Delta region is considered the birthplace of blues music, honoured at the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale. Mississippi is known for its preservation of historical places, creative arts heritage and natural wonders. The Mississippi river forms the state’s western boundary, and visitors can find freshly caught shrimp on the menu just as they can find barbecued ribs and fried river catfish.

Missouri is a Midwestern state covered by grassy plains and the forested Ozark Mountains. Cruise down Route 66 for vintage Americana; put on your dancing shoes for nights of jazz, rock and more; visit one of more than 50 state parks for outdoor adventure; and tuck into a plate of slow-cooked barbecue – what more could you want?!

A visit to North Carolina is full of firsts. Watch the sun rise and set from the same spot on a barrier-island beach. Hear the sound of waterfalls echoing all around you. Sip moonshine distilled from a recipe five generations old. In North Carolina, you can do something you’ve never done before.

Discover the great outdoors at Devils Fork State Park. Witness revolutionary war days at Camden's historic battle reenactments. Learn the secrets of South Carolina cuisine.

Tennessee mixes historic and modern in places like Memphis, Knoxville, Nashville, and Chattanooga. Look for Civil War sites, civil rights monuments, head to one of the many world-class cultural venues, pay your pilgrimage to Graceland and savour some Jack Daniels and barbecue at one of the state’s many trendy food and drink spots.

Discover your perfect holiday spot in Virginia. Sparkling waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean gently lap against miles of sandy beaches. The blue-hued morning mist hugs the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. A new day begins in Virginia, a day promising all the fun and excitement of hiking the Appalachian Trail; the heritage of visiting eight presidential homes and more Civil War battlefields than any other state; and the big thrills of riding the worlds fastest coasters at amazing theme parks.

You will find real mountain beauty in West Virginia. This is a state full of mystery, wonder and surprise. A remote, placid lake. A world-class trout stream. A luxury cabin in the mountains. In West Virginia, you’ll feel far away from everything.
