Sailing daily from Bergen up through the Arctic Circle to Kirkenes and back, our fleet of 11 modestly-sized ships are capable of getting much closer to the coastline and communities living at the 34 ports we visit. With the smaller size comes a more intimate experience and unique opportunity to get an authentic glimpse into Norwegian culture. Experience the four different seasons with the chance to see the Northern Lights in the winter, the Midnight Sun in the summer, the Arctic awakening in spring and the magnificent autumn golds in autumn. For the more adventurous we also sail to some of the world’s most remote places such as Spitsbergen, Greenland, Iceland and Antarctica. On these sailings we have our own expedition’s team on board and offer daily landings. We also have a variety of optional and pre-bookable excursions on all our itineraries.
At Hurtigruten the main focus is on what’s outside rather what’s happening on the inside of the ship. We sail to some of the world’s most remote places and visit small villages and towns that other traditional cruise ships are unable to get to. You are able to sit comfortably in our panorama lounge and take in the stunning scenery or stand outside on deck watching the magnificent Northern Lights should they choose to appear. We are also a main source of transport for many Norwegians, so don’t be surprised should the local folk group be on board and decide to perform. We focus on a informal and relaxed atmosphere rather than glitz and glamour.
The food served on board changes depending on where the ships are and what have been delivered to the ports visited that day. This way they are able to support the local suppliers and always ensure the food is fresh.
Jacuzzis on selected ships.
A huge selection of optional and pre-bookable excursions
All of the 11 ships that sail along the Norwegian coast vary in size and age from the MS Midnatsol built in 2003, to the traditional vessel MS Lofoten (1964), with it’s vintage exterior and interior which still appeals to many of our guests looking for some 1960’s charm. The Millennium ships : MS Finnmarken, MS Midnatsol and MS Trollfjord both built in the 2000’s The Midgeneration ships : MS Nordnorge, MS Nordkapp, MS Polarlys, MS Nordlys, MS Richard With, MS Kond Harald all built in the 90’s The Traditional ships : MS Vesterålen (1983) and MS Lofoten (1964)
