Perhaps one of the most famous rail journeys in the world is the two-day trip to Venice from London onboard the iconic Venice Simplon-Orient Express.
This charming art deco train is a marvel of beautifully restored cabins that seem to have stepped straight out of the glamorous roaring Twenties, exquisite cuisine, and impeccable service.
The journey from cosmopolitan London begins with the delightful Belmond British Pullman train. Then, once you’ve crossed the Channel into France, you board the exquisite Venice Simplon-Orient Express. Slowly winding its way through countryside and mountains, the train arrives into Italy, crossing the Venetian Lagoon before pulling into the station. Just in time to indulge in an exquisite evening meal in Venice…
Travel Counsellor Sarah, travelled on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in June, and said the journey was breathtaking, as was the train: “Cheery wood and mahogany shellac veneer all nicely French polished with gold brass luggage racks and rails shone out at us. The smell of elbow grease and Brasso still lingered. Although diesel and electric hauled, the waft of coal-fired heating at the end of each carriage reminds you of the glory days of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.”
