Planning a dream trip on Rocky Mountaineer? Booking a ski week in Whistler or beyond? Thinking about cruising the Pacific Northwest? Add a few days in vibrant Vancouver to your trip and you’ll soon discover why Vancouver is a firm favourite with travellers from all over the world. If you’ve got 2 – 3 days spare in Vancouver, here’s what to see, do, eat and experience.
Ascend Grouse Mountain
You don’t have to travel far out of the city to get a dose of nature. Easily accessible Grouse Mountain is a fun spot for visitors of all ages to spend a day. Take the Grouse Mountain Skyride to the top of the peak to take in panoramic views of Vancouver below, then hit the bistro or café for lunch or a snack. Depending on when you visit, Grouse Mountain has a range of activities to get stuck into. From ice-skating in winter, to seeing rescued bears in the wildlife refuge, Grouse Mountain offers something all year round.
Visitors often stick to the downtown area for convenience, but head to the nearby beachside neighbourhood of Kitsilano and you’ll see another side of the city. Have fun shopping for unique gifts in speciality stores, drinking coffee in hip cafes, sipping cocktails in cool bars and, if the weather’s fine, join locals on a wander along the beach as the sun sets.
Visit Stanley Park
Sitting right on the edge of downtown Vancouver, this sprawling greenspace provides locals and visitors with ample things to do. Hire a bike and go on a leisurely cycle along the designated bike paths, lace up your walking shoes and enjoy an afternoon stroll along the seawall, or head to one of the park’s eateries to enjoy a laidback meal with calming water views.
Taste your way around Granville Island Public Market
If you love gourmet food, then head to Granville Island Public Market for an afternoon of grazing. An indoor market packed with a cornucopia of fresh produce, inside you’ll find BC’s first certified organic bakery, a community-based vegetarian eatery, a longstanding donut shop with a cult following, specialist small batch cheese producers, and a tea shop offering more than 200 varieties of tea.
Discover horticultural wonders at Queen Elizabeth Park
Covering 52 hectares, this much-loved park is only 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver if driving or riding on public transport. Admire the beautifully landscaped Quarry Garden, complete with a gentle stream and cascading waterfall, view more than 1500 trees found within the arboretum and (if the season is right) stop by the rose garden to see colourful roses in full bloom.
