Travel with toddlers can be an ordeal and can certainly be quite daunting for new parents. While travelling with little ones might be overwhelming, it’s certainly far from impossible! Starting off with shorter journeys helps, as does travelling on a family friendly airline like AirAsia. Here are some top tips so you have a few tricks up your sleeve to make the journey a little smoother:
PICK YOUR SEAT ON THE PLANE
If your little cherubs aren’t able to sit still throughout a flight, consider picking a window seat for them to provide a little bit of privacy and access to the window to look out over the cotton candy clouds.
TIMING IS EVERYTHING
One tip that works for many is to try and fly overnight or during your child’s nap time. Once you’ve gone through the check in and made your way through the airport, by the time you board, little one will be worn out and ready to sleep.
PLAN FOR MEALS AND DRINKS
Since AirAsia practices a no outside food policy on board, it’s worth pre-ordering a meal for children to ensure they are well fed on board. AirAsia offer kids meals with a snack and a drink as well as a variety of other food and drinks. Ensure your toddler has plenty of liquid during take-off and descent since swallowing helps prevent altitude-related ear pain.
WET WIPES AND EXTRA NAPPIES
Never ever leave home without packing some wet wipes and extra nappies. Can you imagine if you ran out of nappies on board? That could be your worst nightmare if your toddler has a soiled nappy and cannot change into a fresh one!
BRING HIS/HER FAVORITE SOFT TOY
Having a familiar soft toy ‘friend’ with them makes little ones feel comfy and they can make a great pillow too!
PACK A PLANE BAG FOR YOUR CHILD
Get your toddler to pick what they want to bring along with you in a little backpack. A couple of toys and a book are great. If you forgot to pack any of these, fret not! You can purchase AirAsia’s Kids Fun Bag, Kids Fun Box and Airport Play Set on board! It can get chilly on the plane, so pack a little jacket or a lightweight blanket and a pair of socks to keep them warm.
TRAVEL WITH AN IPAD (OR NOT)
To bring or not to bring an iPad... A little bit of screen time can help keep little ones entertained, especially when they are getting irritable after some time on the plane. Do remember to turn off all electronic devices during take-off and landing.
AirAsia offer priority boarding for families with infants and children. This allows parents more time to stow away cabin baggage and ensure that children are seated comfortably without having to worry about disturbing the flow of other passengers boarding.
