Land Before Time... this is how I would describe Southland. Southland is New Zealand's southernmost region and Stewart Island is a portion of this region. The people are friendly and the land is wild.... maybe that should be the other way round! Visitors will receive a pleasant surprise when travelling the Southern Scenic route, the Geology, Flora and Wildlife are breathtaking. Take note of the ways the trees grow! While in Invercargill, head out to Bluff and try the oysters, sooooo fresh and delicious. Also get on a boat and head to Stewart Island and dare if you will, go shark cage diving. You will see the majestic beauty of the Fiordland Mountains, rugged southern coast. Stroll through the colourful fishing villages and seaside settlements. Stay overnight and meet the locals, a pub is always open.
