MY THAI EXPERIENCE

Heading to Phuket was my first Thai experience. Flying out with Thai Airways via Bangkok with a connecting flight on the night flight from Melbourne offered spacious seats and friendly service. The benefit of flying with Thai Airways is that they offer a higher baggage allowance than other low-cost airlines and also have meals and beverages included in the cost of the flight. Arriving in to Phuket was a quick and easy process, heading through to collect the luggage and in to the arrivals area where we picked up the pre-booked transfer with Easia. Onwards to the Outrigger Laguna Beach Resort which is approx. 30min from airport, which greeted us with an open-air lobby and friendly staff. It is a family and couples resort with great facilities and beach front. The rooms are spacious with a huge bed that you really could use a taxi to reach the other side! The decor has a Thai influence yet still modern and relaxing. With all Lagoon or sea facing rooms the only thing you must decide is whether you would like to opt for the half board package and whether an upgrade to a club room is on the cards! The club room is great value for money! Not only do you get to stay in a sea view room, you also get the perks of the club lounge. A breezy plantation style building where you have access to a mini bar throughout the day, afternoon tea, pre-dinner drinks and canapés included in the club room price. If you’re one that likes to see a change of scenery, there is a courtesy boat that will ferry guest between the other resort around the Laguna. Have dinner at one of the other complexes and charge it back to your account at the Outrigger. The Outrigger offers lovely food in its restaurants and theme nights in the buffet restaurants. Whilst staying at the Outrigger you may want to experience some of the local areas such as Old Phuket town, which has great night markets, shopping and of course the great massages that are so cheaply priced; $15 for 1-hour back massage and $8 for a 30min foot massage!! The local food here was amazing and only cost around $5 for lunch and a drink! If you really want to experience the real Thai experience I highly recommend going to the old Phuket town. It is a busy place with lots of hustle and bustle. A great way to learn about the culture and how the Thai people live! The hotel can organise you a taxi which cost around $20 for the hours’ drive in to the town one way. Phuket is famous for its party scenes, especially Bangla Road in Patong. It’s a very lively busy resort and Bangla Road is filled with many weird and wonderful things. If you are looking to go to Patong more than once I defiantly recommend staying closer to save on driving times. Karon beach and Kuta are great places to stay. Close enough to get to Patong nightlife but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Karon Beach and Kuta are both Resort towns with restaurants, bars and shops lining the streets. I personally preferred them to Patong. They have plenty to do around both resorts and they are not far apart at all. Take a TUK TUK taxi from Kuta to Karon beach for around $8 and from Karon Beach to Patong for $16. The TUK TUK taxis are great fun, with music playing and disco lights which light up when the sun goes down. Super fun times! Thailand has plenty of experiences to offer, from family resorts to party scenes and island escapes. For more information on Thailand why not contact me to start planning your trip today!
