I was very lucky to upgrade to business class from Melbourne to Kuala Lumper with Malaysia Airlines. Although the flight only took 8hrs, we flew at night so it was great to be able to lay flat and feel rested once we arrived.
From Kuala Lumpur we decided to fly with Air Asia. It was only a 50min flight over to the island of Langkawi. We used the self check in and went to the baggage drop, the process was quick and easy. Things to take in to account though, if you fly Air Asia they depart from KLIA2 if you fly in to Kuala Lumpur with airlines like Malaysia airlines, Singapore airlines, Qantas and so on they land in KLIA1. You need to allow a minimum of 45min to make your way over to KLIA2 via train after collecting your luggage and re check back in with Air Asia domestic flights! I would highly recommend others to book a continuous flight with for example Malaysia airlines, it means your luggage will go all the way through to Langkawi and you stay with in the KLIA1 terminal and transit through the airport. Both ways have there perks it just depends what your budget is and what time frame your on.
Coming in to land in Langkawi we was greeted by some beautiful views of the small surrounding islands. We collected our luggage and made our way to the arrivals hall where I had pre booked a transfer directly with the hotel. The seats in the car reminded me of the business class seats on the flight .. very comfy leather seats, had great air conditioning which was very welcome and we was provide with a complimentary bottle of water. The driver was lovely and told us a little bit about the island as we drove towards the hotel even pointed out the "cheeky monkey" sat on the side of the road!
Arriving at the Andaman Resort we was greeted by the porters who took care of our luggage. We was asked to take a seat in the giant reception lobby. Treated to an arrival drink...the attentive staff checked us in to the room from the comfort of the lobby sofas, we didn't even have to go to the reception desk. Our luggage already awaiting us in the room!
Our deluxe rainforest room had a view from the balcony over the Pool Villas, set amongst a rainforest setting. The beds are super comfy and the walk in shower was very spacious. There was a mini bar in the room which you can charge back to your room, along with room service.
We woke up the following morning and was greeted by the same "cheeky monkey" that the driver had pointed out to us the previous day! Although very cute, be sure to leave your balcony door closed when you leave the room as "cheeky Monkey" will come in and have a party in your room!
I met the lovely Kimberley from the Andaman Resort team who took me on a site tour. Whilst the resort offers the ultimate relaxing spa resort experience for adults ..they still cater for children. While parents relax, children are provided with their own personalised adventures at the Young Explorer's Club. Under the supervision little ones are invited to participate in educational excursions that revolve around nature and exploration. The kids club room is very interactive not an iPad insight!! Baby sitting services are available if you would like to head out for dinner together.
Breakfast by the pool this morning which had a great view over the pool. An option of a full Buffet Breakfast or you can order from the cook to order menu. Plenty of options from pancakes right through to healthy options. The Andaman has four unique dining venues that entwine gourmet cuisine with indigenous flavor. Combined with sumptuous surroundings, a unique culinary experience will be enjoyed with every dish. A buffet breakfast and an à la carte menu are available at the all-day dining in The Restaurant. International dishes and traditional Malay favorites are offered at Tepian Laut, and Japanese specialties at the Japanese Restaurant. Guests can sample Malay and Scandinavian Western fusion dishes at Jala and have refreshing cocktails and light snacks at the Beach Bar and Jentayu Lounge.
The Andaman Resort is set amidst of the 10million year old rain forest. When the resort was created their aim was to preserve as much as the natural environment as they could. The pools water slide will keep the young and young at heart entertained .. whilst the pools concierge will keep the Adults refreshed throughout the day! The pool leads you down to the beach bar where the happy hour discount is based on the temperature taken at 3pm daily. Being under a duty free status with there government island you will find the drink prices and food prices reasonable for a resort like this.. a lot cheaper then other locations!
One evening myself and my partner went to the spa high up on the hill, the hut offers 180 degrees of breath taking sea views. The staff there are amazing and do a fantastic job.
The Beach was amazing the water warmer than the pool itself. The Andaman has a great stretch of white sand which they maintain several times a day, the staff at the hotel will tell you that they are very proud of there beach and have gone to lengths to stop motorized boats and jet skis coming in to the bay as it disturbs the peace and stirs up the water. Surrounding the beach is a coral reef which played a big part to why Langkawi only received minimal damage when the Tsunami came through, because of this the coral reef took on some massive damage. The Andaman have created a coral garden where you can plant your very own coral and once mature enough they will plant it back in to the ocean in a bid to rebuild there coral reef.
All in all I would defiantly recommend the Andaman Resort for anyone that likes peace and quiet with activities on your door step amidst the 5 star luxury.
